Wegotserved's series on building a Windows 8 Home Server has been completed through part 6, "Installing Windows 8". Other parts have included a long multi-page post with many screen shots showing how to physically build a computer that will work as your Windows 8 Home Server (part 4 of the series) and configuring the bios of your new machine (part 5 of the series.)
In part 6 of the series, they walk us through how to install Windows using the Microsoft USB tool that allows installing the operating system from a downloaded file by using a USB device such as a memory stick:
Yes, that’s right – we’ll install Windows 8 using something called the Windows 7 USB tool. Don’t worry about it, Microsoft will update the branding at some point, I’m sure. The Windows USB tool is a small application that takes a Windows ISO file, copies it on to your USB drive and adds the special sauce required to make the drive bootable.
Overall, this article is very complete and includes installing and updating device drivers from the various manufacturers, including the motherboard drivers.
Even if you aren't going to use Windows 8 as a home server, I'm sure even a raw beginner can learn how to build a computer and install Windows using this series of posts.
Hopefully, in the next few posts, they will show us some of the server related features of Windows 8.
