Techpowerup has produced an 18 page review of the Synology DS412+ - a Synology 4 drive NAS server, NAS running a dual-core Atom processor running at 2.13 GHz with 1 GB DDR3 RAM. Techpowerup, as have almost all reviewers of Synology NAS servers in recent memory, has nothing but praise for the Synology Disk Station Manager (DSM) software that runs this NAS and all Synology NAS servers.
This page has the performance summary which contains this:
In general the DS412+ is pretty fast and the speeds it achieves in RAID 1 configuration are amazing, compared to other NAS we have tested in the past.
Clearly the NAS has all the speed you could want in a four drive unit. The only problem being some glitch in the USB 3 ports that slowed down USB performance to something more like USB 2 speeds.
Power consumption is also good:
Even at heavy throughput with four disks the NAS needs only 50W of power so it is very efficient, something that will save you much money especially if you have it working continuously (24/7).
Noise output is also good, and Techpowerup finds that the Synology DS412+ is a good value in a four bay NAS.
