WD Green vs Red Drives

WD Red 3 TB NAS Hard Drive SATA III 64 MB Cache WD30EFRX 2I found a nice analysis of Western Digital Green drives vs Western Digital Red drives on pugetsystems.com.

WD Red drives are very similar to the Green drives except that the automatic head parking mechanism is timed to 5 minutes instead of 8 seconds (for the Green) and the time the drive is allowed to try to reallocate sectors is reduced in the Red drives because most NAS arrays will not allow for more than a few seconds before the drive is assumed to be failing and is taken offline from the array.
